What You'll Do...

You will become part of a close-knit South Wales based team, working to support multiple cloud infrastructure setups. You’ll be supporting and improving client’s infrastructure, deployments and processes, while managing systems based in various cloud providers.

As a Senior within the team you’ll have the pleasure of joining the on-call rota. You’ll receive an on-call retainer bonus in exchange for helping to ensure our customers are supported and P1 issues are fixed if they arise out of standard working hours.

You will support a variety of technologies such as container-based systems based in EKS, AKS and ECS and PaaS systems within AWS (& Azure), as well as some IaaS Systems utilising Windows and Linux Servers of various flavours.

Your professional and personal development means a lot to us, so you’ll learn (a lot!) and we will support you to obtain certificates in various systems and software. More importantly, you’ll be having fun while doing all the above, in a safe and inclusive environment!

Here’s how your first month will look…

  • We will ease you into your time at DOG with a fully planned two-week onboarding process to learn our ways of working and tooling.
  • You will meet your team, as well as a mixture of peers with varying experience
  • We will introduce you to all the clients looked after within the squad, walking you through their cloud setups and tooling
  • You will work day to day with your line manager and fortnightly 1-2-1’s will be booked, you will experience your first 1-2-1 by the end of your first month
  • We pride ourselves on our openness within DOG and you will be given the opportunities to provide feedback on your onboarding and your first month at DOG. You will also receive feedback from your team and line manager during this time

By month three…

  • You’ll be working closely with your team and getting to know our clients further
  • You will be offered Agile Foundation BCS training as well as our exclusive UK first Devops Foundation BCS training
  • You will have familiarised yourself with our day to day tooling e.g. JIRA and Confluence, as well as getting stuck into AWS estates of varying complexity
  • Client work will have been performed and there are always opportunities to research and trial new technologies as we regularly look to aid our clients to adopt cutting edge tech
  • The squad will have had a carefully chosen team building evening
  • You will have attended a quarterly DOG Conference!

A full year with DevOpsGroup…

  • You’ll now be working closely with clients on a daily basis
  • You will have worked on all of the customers systems that the team supports at least once and be regularly attending weekly client calls throughout
  • You will have become a Technical Owner, owning a client’s tech stack, and supporting other team members with knowledge sharing, as well as understanding your client’s priorities
  • You’ll have had at least one on call shift and fixed any call outs with ease
  • Rebooted many servers!
  • You’ll have assisted one of our Junior team members with a customer issue
  • Accidentally broken something, but that’s ok, providing there’s learning to take from it
  • You will now be looking for opportunities to progress
  • You will have saved our clients’ money on their cloud estate bills
  • Picking up and working on tickets with little or no assistance will be a breeze to you now

Who you'll be working with...

Here at DevOpsGroup we run our managed service team, otherwise known as the Operate team. We are slightly different to other managed services in that we assign clients to a dedicated squad. Each squad works closely with a small set of clients as opposed to the helpdesk model used throughout the industry. This approach allows the squad to work much more collaboratively with our clients and really get to know not only their technology stack but their business as well. A typical operate squad is made up of an agile delivery manager who leads the squad, multiple engineers with advanced backgrounds in AWS and Azure cloud setups.

The squad you will come into has a fantastic mix of deeply experienced cloud experts as well as those earlier in their careers, all driven by the newest technologies. This comes together to offer our clients a fantastic mix of skills and capabilities. The squad in question is relaxed, funny and client focused, utilising constant communications with their assigned clients using Slack or Teams (client choice) to keep on top of everything that is required day to day.

You’ll be working with a variety of technologies and tools such as AWS Cloud, Azure Cloud Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, GIT, Azure DevOps and ARM templates (just to name a few!)

The experience you'll need...

  • Detailed understanding of AWS or Azure cloud services
  • Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines
  • Proven experience working on build and deploy automation projects
  • In depth knowledge of Linux or Windows system administration experience and networking, storage, monitoring, etc
  • Experience working with DevOps and automation tools and practices for managing pipeline automation and familiarity infrastructure as code build outs
  • Experience in using Kubernetes based infrastructure services like EKS and AKS is a bonus, as well as more general experience in working with containerisation
  • Excellent communication and client facing skills including the ability to lead small to medium size projects and produce well written documentation
  • Good understanding of the DevOps tools landscape and the major areas of DevOps tooling
  • Strong commitment to delivering client success
  • You’ll have working knowledge of any of the well-known configuration management tools
  • Solid scripting and programming skills
