What You'll Do...

As part of one of our Enterprise squads, you’ll be working with other team members to deliver DevOps capabilities to clients, including (but not limited to!) Continuous Delivery, Secrets Management, Containerisation and Cloud. This will include using a variety of existing toolsets and technologies, and introducing new technology to solve complex problems. Some of these include the likes of TeamCity, Jenkins, Docker, Ansible, AWS and HashiCorp Vault.

It’s not just about delivery at DevOpsGroup; there is a big focus on learning and development too. It’s key to us growing as a squad and an organisation, ensuring we always bring the best solutions to the problems our clients have. As part of the team, you’ll work with peers and your manager to identify a career pathway that works for you, ensuring you have the time you need to develop as a person.

Here’s how your first month will look…

  • We will ease you into your time at DOG with a fully planned two-week onboarding process to learn our ways of working and tooling.
  • You will meet your team and joined in on stand-ups, as well as a mixture of peers with varying experience through the Engineering community.
  • A team lunch will be provided on your first day for everyone in the Cardiff office to come together.
  • We will introduce you to all the clients looked after within the squad, walking you through their setups and tooling.
  • You will work alongside your line manager to arrange fortnightly 1-2-1’s, and you will have had your first 1-2-1 by the end of the month.
  • We pride ourselves on our openness within DOG. You will be given the opportunity to provide feedback on your onboarding and first month at DOG. You will also receive feedback from your team and line manager during this time, allowing you to grow and develop.

By month three…

  • You’ll be working closely with your team, and would have started to deliver awesome solutions to our clients.
  • You will be offered Agile Foundation BCS training as well as our exclusive UK first DevOps Foundation BCS training.
  • You will have familiarised yourself with the day to day tooling used in the squad (Jira and Confluence), and contributed to improvement in the squad via fortnightly review calls.
  • You will have had opportunities to research and trial new technologies, so that we can look to aid our clients to adopt cutting edge technology.
  • The squad will have had a carefully chosen team building evening.
  • You will have attended a quarterly DOG Conference!

A full year with DevOpsGroup…

  • You’ll now be working closely with clients on a daily basis, and have delivered numerous capabilities enabling them to achieve their goals.
  • Accidentally broken something, but that’s ok, providing there’s learning to take from it.
  • You will now be looking for opportunities to progress.
  • Picking up and working on tickets with little or no assistance will be a breeze to you now.

Who you’ll be working with…

You’ll be joining the Flying Hellfish squad, a team focused on delivering solutions to Enterprise clients. The team includes Consultants, Engineers and a Delivery Manager (we call them CSMs).

Our Engineers bring the best in technical excellence to the squad, with a range and diverse set of skills between them, including AWS and Azure, TeamCity and Jenkins, Terraform and Ansible, just to name a few! They understand learning is important and are always available to answer questions and pair to solve problems.

Our Consultants love to talk, and are full of good information. From DevOps to Cloud, Agile to Lean, they use their deep understanding of principles to work with the squad, mapping out the problems to be solved and the execution of delivery. The CSM in the squad keeps things moving; they are the engine room and no engagement would be complete without them. They work to keep clients and the squad happy, by ensuring smooth delivery and clear statements of work that the squad can deliver against.

On a regular basis the squad meets. This can either be for a fortnightly review call, team lunches, or company funded team building events. We understand the pressures of delivering to clients, so ensure we have fun too! Past events have included meals out and escape rooms, but we always ensure everyone has input into the activity.

We’re looking for people who…

  • Are able to commute to our London offices (Shoreditch) most days of the week or client site if needed, however we do promote remote working.
  • Enjoy working in a team, and communicating with clients on a regular basis.
  • Are hardworking, focused and up for a challenge.
  • Like discovering problems before implementation solutions.
  • Have an appetite to learn (there will be a lot of it!).
  • Relish responsibility.
  • Love to have fun!

The experience you’ll need…

  • Continuous Integration tooling (such as TeamCity or Jenkins)
  • Cloud technology, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Infrastructure / Configuration Management tools such as Ansible / Puppet or Terraform.
  • Understanding of core DevOps principles, and practices such as Continuous Delivery.
  • Scripting languages (such as Bash, Python or PowerShell).
  • Source control tooling (such as Git), and basic principles of using source control.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.
